For seventy years of glory, Zhongshan's urban lighting has undergone montage-like changes. Especially after the rapid development in recent years, the night scene of Zhongshan is shown to the citizens like a picture scroll. So, how did Zhongshan Streetlights complete the change from the early days of the founding of New China to the beautiful picture now?

   Before 1980

The lights are dotted and the citizens go home dimly

After the founding of New China, the city’s main arterial roads were basically equipped with road functional lighting, and the light source was incandescent lamps. In the 1960s, it was gradually replaced with high-pressure mercury lamps. The lines were basically erected on the same pole as the electricity and tram lines. The lamps were mainly a light bulb with an enamel cover. In the 1970s, high-pressure sodium lamps gradually replaced high-pressure mercury lamps on major arterial roads.

Landscape lighting only has a small number of cement poles and special iron art lamp stands in the Gulou, Confucius Temple and other areas, and several buildings such as Dahua Cinema are hooked with incandescent lamps on two sides. The lighting is just a little safety guard for the citizens going home.

  1980-1999

The lighting rate in the urban area is over 97%, and the city landmarks are replaced with beautiful decorations

In the 1980s and 1990s, functional lighting as a city's infrastructure received attention and protection. Separate laying of lines and pole lighting gradually became popular, functional lighting standards began to be established, and high pole lighting was promoted and applied in urban squares. Thanks to the professional operation of construction and maintenance, the lighting rate of urban street lights has remained above 97%.

Landscape lighting started gradually. In 1989, the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge and the Confucius Temple night lighting project, two of the most distinctive city cards in Nanjing, were replaced with beautiful new decorations at night. In 1991, the Hunan Road Lighting Night Market opened. CCTV has been shining for 70 years. The urban lighting in Zhongshan has undergone montage-like changes. Especially after the rapid development in recent years, the night scene of Zhongshan is shown to the public like a picture scroll.
